Don’t play every hand

You do not need to play every hand and folding more can do you good. The biggest and most common mistake of amateur players is that they play way to many hands. Beginners who play poker want to play the game- and thus play all the hands they have. But this should not be a habit. Playing many hands means that you might lose many games too.
